Creation Grant Program
Grant Opportunities Designed for Indigenous Artists
The Creation Grant Program provides funding to Indigenous artists, artistic groups, and culture carriers within Newfoundland and Labrador for the creation, development, exhibition, and transfer of knowledge related to an art form or artistic practice. This pilot project provides funding opportunities to Indigenous artists at any stage of their artistic career, working in all disciplines.

Application assistance is available to artists who may need support with the application process. ArtsNL can fund a support person/provider, chosen by the artist, to complete a grant application, and/or a final report. If you are having trouble or facing a barrier, please review our Accessibility Support Fund or speak with ArtsNL’s staff for details.

To apply to the Creation Grant Program, you must be:
· Indigenous (applicants will be expected to explain their relationship with their culture and Identity);
· An Indigenous artist or culture carrier;
· An Indigenous artistic group or artistic collective;
· A resident of Newfoundland and Labrador for a minimum of one year at the time of application; and
· Over the age of 18.Artists can apply as:
· Individual Artist - A single artist representing themselves
· Group - A group of artists practicing as one (such as a band or theatre group)
· Collaboration - A collection of individual artists or groups who come together to create with one anotherActivities including collaborations between Indigenous and non-Indigenous artists must be Indigenous-initiated, Indigenous-led and Indigenous-benefiting.

There are two funding streams available:
1. Creation Micro-grant (up to $1,500) for small-scale projects, general materials, and related expenses.
2. Creation Grant (projects running less than 1 year – up to a maximum of $15,000) Successful applicants may be awarded a minimum of 75% of eligible project expenses.
A maximum of $15,000 may be awarded to an applicant annually, across all ArtsNL programs (excluding funding through the Professional Artist Travel Fund and the Accessibility Support Fund).

Research, development, creation, presentation and transmission of knowledge related to artistic work. This includes arts/cultural training and mentorships, and initiatives that pass on cultural knowledge through artistic practice.

· Large capital purchases (i.e., funds used to buy or upgrade equipment and/or machinery)
· Work/activities that have already been completed.
· Work/activities that have already been funded.
· Fundraising activities
· Work/activities by for-profit businesses, governments, councils, bands, and/or other related groups or organizations with designated funding streams

The next deadline for Creation Project Grants is 30 January 2025 at 11:59PM. Peer assessment will follow, with results typically released within 4-6 weeks.
Creation Micro Grants are open and accepted on a first-come, first-served basis and processed as received. Micro Grants will be reviewed internally.

Budget
Applicants have the option of creating their own budget document or using a template. A fillable PDF template is available here.
Logos
Successful applicants are required to acknowledge the assistance of ArtsNL and include both the Year of the Arts logo and the ArtsNL logo in any publicity or promotional materials. Logos can be downloaded here.

Applications are reviewed by peer assessment panels which include Indigenous peers and arts professionals.

A final report is required within three months of the project/activity end date.
